Checklist for Artisan® & Historian™ when moving to a new computer.

Checklist for Artisan & Historian:

Things you may want to complete before moving the software to a new computer and/or reinstalling.

Artisan®:

  1. Projects
  2. Content
  3. Activation Codes
  4. Categories (if used)
  5. Tags (if used)
  6. Font Catalog (if used)
  7. Calendar Event Lists (if used)

Historian™:

  1. Make a backup or Copy Vault to new location

Artisan:

You will want to make sure you have your projects, content, activation codes, categories, and tags (if you use the categories & tags).

Projects:

  1. Default location is C:\Users\Your Username\Documents\Artisan Projects
  2. If your projects are not in this location, please open one up and click on File and go down to Properties to find the location.

Content:

  1. Commercial Art Kit
    1. Default location – C:\Users\Public\Documents\Commercial Art Kits
  2. Personal Art Kit
    1. Default location – C:\Users\Your Username\Documents\Personal Art Kits
  3. If you have other folders listed in the Manage Content section other than the defaults (built in kits, font kits) you will want to back these up as well. To find the location if you click on the folder and look to the right you will see the file location.

Activation Codes:

  1. Go into the Manage Content and select Activation Codes. There will be an option to ‘Make a backup of my activation codes’, please select this. It will create a notepad document, please save this to an external hard drive so you have this moving forward.

Categories:

  1. If you use the My Categories section within the Manage Content section, you will want to browse to the location of C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\Forever\Artisan 5 and copy the KitFolders.xml file to the external hard drive.
  2. Please note the AppData is a hidden folder that needs to be unhidden.
    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Double click Folder Options
    3. Click View tab
    4. Select Show hidden files, folders, and drives
    5. Click OK

Tags:

  1. If you use the Tags section within the Manage Content section, you will want to browse to the location of C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\Forever\Artisan 5 and copy the Keywords.xml file to the external hard drive.
  2. Please note the AppData is a hidden folder that needs to be unhidden.
    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Double click Folder Options
    3. Click View tab
    4. Select Show hidden files, folders, and drives
    5. Click OK

Font Catalog:

  1. This is new to Artisan 5. If you organize your fonts in the font catalog please browse to the location of C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\Forever\Artisan 5 and copy the FontCatalog.xml to the external hard drive.
  2. Please note the AppData is a hidden folder that needs to be hidden.
    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Double click Folder Options
    3. Click View tab
    4. Select Show hidden files, folders, and drives
    5. Click OK

Calendar Event Lists:

  1. If you created your own calendar event list please browse to the location C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\Forever\Artisan 5\Dates and copy the document you see listed to the external drive.
  2. Please note the AppData is a hidden folder that needs to be hidden.
    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Double click Folder Options
    3. Click View tab
    4. Select Show hidden files, folders, and drives
    5. Click OK

Historian:

You will want to have a backup done of your vault file. This can be done by opening up the program and clicking on the Vault Ribbon at the top. In here you will see your backup options.

The other option you can do is copy the entire vault file to a different location.
