PDF (also known as: Portable Document Format)

A file format used to present documents in a manner independent of application software, hardware and operating system. PDF files encapsulate a complete description of a fixed-layout flat document, including text, fonts, graphics, and other information needed to display it. PDF is a standard file used by printers because of its ability to translate color and layout without compromising either.
